Centred Pilates for All Levels in Ferrymead

  • Level 1 / Reformer Foundation: This is our beginner class. Exercises are performed at a slower pace with a focus on technique and body awareness.
  • Level 2: With an increased pace this classes emphasis is on endurance and more complex choreography. 
  • Level 3: Enter our advanced class. Expect an all round strong and challenging workout combining all the previously learned techniques at the fastest pace yet. 
  • Reformer Pilates Classes

    Reformer Pilates is designed with springs of differing intensity with a moving platform that allows concentric as well as eccentric loading of the muscle. It allows to either support the body against gravity or increase resistance for more advanced participants.

Initial Assessments - One-on-one or Two-on-one Private Sessions

All clients new to Pilates or those with injuries or pain are required to book an initial assessment / introductory session. Fundamental Pilates principals will be explained as a building block for postural awareness, deep and functional breathing and stabilizing muscle activation

Exercises will be broken into segments to prepare for mat or reformer class participation. Health history as well as specific tests will allow an insight into clients’ movement strategies, strength and flexibility and will make it possible for the teacher to address potential problems in class or in individual training sessions.

Private one-on one Pilates sessions are a great way to get the most out of your Pilates training and gives you the full attention of your teacher. Whether you are recovering from an injury, want to improve your performance in another sport, or would like to fine tune your technique; our one-on one Pilates sessions will be tailored to your needs.

Private two-on-one Pilates sessions will bring you the benefit of a on-on-one class but in combination with a good friend or partner. Double the fun.

Pilates Mat Classes

Centred Studios Pilates Mat Classes

A challenging and dynamic workout where you are effectively working with your own body weight and small props on a soft mat. The maximum number of participants in this class is 10. You will have to have completed our introductory session to join our Level 1 classes. Once you are familiar with the fundamental principles of Pilates and have been introduced to some of the basic Pilates mat exercises you can book your level 1 classes online. Your teacher will advise you which level of class you should book as you are progressing in your practice

Class Duration: 55 Minutes
Further classes can be introduced upon request depending on demand. Don’t shy away from asking if times are currently not fitting to your personal schedule. We are new in Ferrymead and are finding out what times work within the community.

The Reformer is one of five pieces of studio Pilates equipment originally designed by Josef Pilates. It is designed with springs of differing intensity with a moving platform that allows concentric as well as eccentric loading of the muscle. It can support the body against gravity or increase resistance for more advanced participants. It is very versatile and becoming increasingly popular.

Class Duration: 55 Minutes
The maximum number of participants in this class is 4. You will have to have completed an initial assessment / introductory session to be able to book Reformer group classes. Please understand that your safety and understanding of movement is our top priority.

Ante and postnatal classes

Centred Pilates Ante and Postnatal Classes

Starting or continuing Pilates during pregnancy allows the changing body to remain strong and flexible, preparing the mother for birth and for faster recovery post delivery. Classes will bring you relief, and ease off potential pain you may be experiencing as a result of the growing baby within you. Breathing exercises and the deep focus into the body allow your mind to relax and you will feel refreshed after each session. Additionally it can be difficult for women to find confidence to exercise during pregnancy correctly and / or to return to their fitness post birth.

Safe and guided exercise to rehabilitate the effects of pregnancy and birth are unfortunately still a lacking field in New Zealand. Katrin has done extensive research in the field of women’s health, particularly the effects of pregnancy, diastasis recti (abdominal separation) and pelvic floor dysfunction. All information discussed with clients will be strictly confidential. Katrin is a mother of two and knows how difficult it can be to dedicate time to ones own recovery with a newborn baby and the ever changing schedule that it brings with it. Mothers often feel guilty to create time and space for their own wellbeing and needs. However, recharging batteries is a fundamental need and healing from birth is an important factor in overall wellbeing and energy levels.

Creating this space for other women and allowing them to recharge their batteries to tackle the demands of motherhood is a key motivator in her work. Her own birthing experience and sustained injuries during birth, her own recovery process and professional background make Katrin a great teacher to address these sensitive issues with her clients and guide them in their recovery.

Studio Equipment Classes

Centred Studios Studio Equipment Classes

Studio Equipment Group Classes are designed for clients who want to work independently on all five Pilates equipment with an individualised program while under supervision. Clients will have to have booked five private sessions to be taught two to three different exercises on each piece of equipment by their Pilates instructor. Once a program is completed you can book online into the studio equipment group classes with a maximum of five participants in total. One of our Pilates instructors will supervise your training and progress your program when you are ready for a step up from your initial program.
