About Centred Studios
Centred Studios exists because of a simple belief: your body deserves more than a generic exercise class. It deserves a team that understands how it works, what it has been through, and what it needs to heal, strengthen, and keep you doing everything you love.
That belief started with our founder, Katrin Gravley.
Katrin’s Story
I grew up in Germany genuinely fascinated by how the human body works – which, as career motivations go, could have been worse. After studying Sports and Exercise Science at Heinrich-Heine University in Düsseldorf, I moved to New Zealand and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Sports and Exercise Science at Waikato Institute of Technology, specialising in musculoskeletal rehabilitation and sports nutrition.
New Zealand won. I stayed.
Working at a multidisciplinary clinic in Auckland is where my thinking about movement and recovery really took shape. Every day I worked with people living with chronic back pain, sports injuries, and overuse conditions – and what struck me most wasn’t what treatment could do, but what happened after. Too many people left care still uncertain about their bodies, still afraid to move fully, still looking for someone who actually understood their situation.
That’s what led me to Pilates. Not the music-pumping, trendy version – the comprehensive, clinical one. Rooted in anatomy, biomechanics, and genuine rehabilitation. I trained with Polestar Pilates and earned certification in the internationally recognised Rehabilitation Series, and it gave me a way to help people that conventional treatment alone often couldn’t.
My own body has been a useful teacher too. Through injury, pregnancy, and recovery, I learned firsthand how it feels when things aren’t working the way they should. That experience sent me deep into women’s health research – particularly diastasis recti and pelvic floor dysfunction – because the lack of good support for women navigating these challenges is, frankly, not good enough.
In 2015 I started from a home studio. In 2024, the dream got a proper address: Centred Studios in Ferrymead, overlooking the Estuary. The team holds internationally recognised Pilates qualifications, and physiotherapy, podiatry, psychology, and massage therapy are all under the same roof – because recovery works better when practitioners actually talk to each other.
It’s the place I wished had existed when I needed it most.

Our Philosophy
Assessment First
Every client begins with a private Movement Assessment. We learn your medical and injury history, assess your posture and movement patterns, and design a program built around your body, not a template. This is the foundation everything else is built on.
Our Intro Offers
Progress Through Stages
We do not rush you into group classes before you are ready. Your foundation is built in Private Sessions if required. You move into small groups when your teacher clears you and when you feel ready. As you grow stronger, your program evolves with you. There is always a next step.
Collaboration, Not Silos
Yor Pilates teacher may recommend you see your physiotherapist. Our physiotherapist may refer you to Pilates once you are ready to build strength. Our psychologist supports clients managing chronic pain. Our podiatrist addresses the foundation: your feet. Our massage therapist can alliviate muscle tension of old holding patterns. We communicate. We collaborate. You benefit.
Meet Our Wellness Hub
Active Lives, Active Bodies
Our clients are not here to lie on a mat and stretch. They are here because they run, cycle, hike, ski, golf, surf, garden, and go to the gym – and they want to keep doing all of it without pain. Everything we do is in service of the life you live outside of our studio and the goals you are setting at the beginning of our journey together.
We are here to support you to live your best life.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need an Assessment if I already have Pilates experience?
If you have a solid Pilates background – meaning regular, instructor-led sessions in a small group or private setting where your technique has been properly guided – you are welcome to jump straight into our Mat Flow or Reformer classes without an assessment. Attending a large gym class of 20 or more people, while a great start, does not give us the same confidence that the foundations are in place. We also require all new clients to declare any injuries or medical conditions before their first class, regardless of experience level. Not sure where you sit? Just reach out – we are happy to help.
I have never done Pilates before, where do I start?
We recommend starting with a New Client Assessment so we can understand your body, your goals, and any relevant history before you step into class. From there, you are welcome to continue with casual classes – or, for the best introduction to Pilates, consider our 4-Week Intro Offer. One session is rarely enough to know whether Pilates is the right fit for you; four weeks gives your body time to adapt, your confidence time to grow, and gives us the chance to really get to know how you move. → [Book your assessment] → [View our 4-Week Intro Offer]
Is Pilates safe if I have an injury or health condition?
Yes, Pilates is widely used in injury rehabilitation and recovery, and our teachers are trained to modify exercises to suit your individual needs. For everyone’s safety, we do require all clients to disclose any injuries or medical conditions before attending class. You can do this through your client intake form, and all information is treated with complete care and confidentiality. If you are managing something more complex, our on-site Wellness Hub practitioners can work alongside your Pilates programme to support your recovery. → [Meet our practitioners]
What is the Wellness Hub and do I need to be a member to access it?
The Centred Wellness Hub is home to a carefully selected group of health practitioners – all under one roof. You do not need to be a Pilates member to see them, though many of our clients find that combining both gives them the best results. Think of it as your complete wellbeing destination, not just a studio. → [Meet our practitioners]
What is the difference between a membership and a class pack?
A membership gives you ongoing access to classes at a lower per-class rate – ideal if Pilates is a regular part of your routine. Your membership begins with a 4-week minimum commitment, after which you can cancel anytime with no lock-in. A class pack suits you if you prefer complete flexibility without a recurring commitment. → [View full pricing]
Are your teachers qualified?
All of our teachers hold recognised Pilates qualifications and bring genuine experience to every class – not just a weekend course. We are committed to ongoing education and mentorship within our team, because being able to truly see how someone moves and know how to help them is a skill that takes years to develop. You are in good hands.
How often should I attend to see results?
Most clients start to notice a difference in how they feel – in their posture, their strength, and the way they move through daily life – within 4 to 6 weeks of attending regularly. We generally recommend coming at least twice a week to build consistency and allow your body to adapt. Once a week can still be beneficial, but progress tends to be slower. The honest answer is that Pilates rewards commitment – the more consistently you show up, the more your body responds. That is one of the reasons we designed our 4-Week Intro Offer the way we did. → [View our 4-Week Intro Offer]
